In September of 2006, FIKA opened its doors to its very first location in Manhattan. The coffee-centric lifestyle that is a Swedish cultural institution and a way of life served as inspiration for founder and co-owner Lars Åkerlund, who saw an immediate love connection between Sweden and New York. In, 2009, fellow Swede and Gold Medal chocolatier Håkan Mårtensson joined forces with FIKA, collaborating on a line of exclusive chocolates, confections, and spreads. The flavors and design of FIKA is heavily inspired by Swedish heritage and flavors and presented with an innovative and modern twist.
