“Experimentation and development plays an important part in bridging the gap between material and design. Experimentation leads to random design experiments which give us new ways of using materials, and technical experiments leads to new materials which in turn provides new starting points for designs.”
Lith Lith Lundin is a furniture company from the small village of Torsåker in central Sweden. Named after its founders, Erik Lith, Martin Lith and Hannes Lundin , Lith Lith Lundin is a reaction to the way the industry constantly puts forward new colors and trends in order for people to strive to buy new products and “have the latest thing”. Their concept is to offer alternatives that are not driven by trends or seasonality by manufacturing timeless furniture that throughout the years will develop its own history. Put simply it is furniture that can be passed on through generations.
Materials are quite important to Lith Lith Lundin. Considering the limited geographical area of Sweden it is a necessity to make the most of everything and everyone available. The process typically begins with keeping traditional materials and techniques in mind when looking for a new material, color or construction. The challenge is then to develop these, without compromising the feel of the material, and to put them in a contemporary context to make them interesting and relevant.
