When Alexander Stutterheim’s grandfather died he re-discovered an old raincoat he had worn which awakened his interest in design. Stutterheim’s clean focused aesthetic has seen the company grow through decidedly creative collaboration with rapper Jay-Z & Barneys, as well as a custom rainproof car cover for Volvo’s Concept Estate Car.
“Scandinavia’s climate keeps people inside during a good part of the year, as such; people are forced to create things,” says Stutterheim. Tracing his story, a few simple things emerge. One is a focus and fascination with designers looking at just one object and product and making it the best and most essential part of your life. The other was the passing of his grandfather, which led to the rediscovery of the old raincoat that triggered not only childhood memories but activated a larger interest in the nature of the design and function of raincoats within the context of the Scandinavian style and its region’s climate.
